Prior to his current position at Cleveland Clinic, Brian previously spent 17 years in a variety of roles at University of Utah Health Care, including five as Senior Director of Interactive Marketing. It was during that time, in early 2013, when the organization took a bold step and became the first provider in the country to post online patient reviews of its physicians. A few months later, at the Healthcare Internet Conference in New Orleans, Brian presented “Shooting for the Stars: Owning Your Physicians’ Online Reputation” to a packed room and was soon quoted in numerous industry and national publications as organizations across the country began embracing the transparency movement, many modeling their approach after UofU.

In 2016, Brian was one of the authors of “Creating the Exceptional Patient Experience in One Academic Health System,” which was published in the medical journal Academic Medicine. The paper described UofU’s groundbreaking, seven-year initiative to “encourage empathy, communication, trust, and shared decision making in the health care delivery process.”
